1. Ensuring the vehicle’s admissibility

• The Original Bill of Sale (the vehicle’s proof of purchase). Original Bill Of Sale means no photocopies.
• CUSMA/USMCA documentation, if applicable (to prove that it is made in either Canada , US or Mexico to remove any duty if applicable).
• Copies of Invoices (must be in English or French).

3. File with the Automated Export System (AES) 72 hours in advance

The U.S. Census Bureau requires 72 hours of notice before a vehicle export. To comply with this rule, you must file your intention to export the vehicle with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Automated Export System (AES).

This necessitates that you provide the Duns, EIN, and IRS numbers from the seller, as well as some other documents. The filing must be done by a U.S.-domiciled company, which can include a United States Principal Party in Interest (USPPI), a customs broker, or a freight forwarder.

After the AES approves your submission, you will be issued an Internal Transaction Number (ITN), which is essential to initiating your 72-hour notice.
